STCW BS+PSC+AFF Refresher

This four day course is designed to provide a combined refresher training program that meets the Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duty (MED) requirements (as per the STCW 2010 Manila amendments) for Basic Safety, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Advanced Firefighting This program is intended for seafarers who hold Certificates of Competency as Deck Officer or Engineer. The aims and objectives of this course are to refresh and update the trainee with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to perform their role as an Officer or Engineer safely and effectively. Trainees will be required to demonstrate their skills, understanding, knowledge and competence in the following training topics: 1. Introduction and Safety; 2. Hazards and Emergencies; 3. Lifesaving appliances and abandonment; 4. Lifeboats; 5. Rescue boats; 6. Liferafts, rigid hull liferafts, and marine evacuation systems; 7. Survival, first aid and rescue; 8. Helicopter assistance; 9. Fire cause and prevention; 10. Firefighting systems; 11. Training of crew members; 12. Management and control of injured persons. Training Duration and Timings Approximately 30.5 hours of training completed over 4 days. Classes run from 0800 to 1630 (time can be altered if necessary). Trainees absent from any component of the program will not be issued a certification until they have completed all requirements. *note: All trainees wearing SCBA for training in a live fire environment will be required to maintain a clean shaven face for the duration of the training course as per Federal and Provincial OHS regulations respecting the wearing and use of respirators including SCBA.

Prerequisites

Medical declaration of fitness;
Valid MED with respect to STCW basic Safety;
Valid MED with respect to Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue boats other than Fast Rescue Craft;
Valid MED with respect to Advanced Firefighting;
Minimum 16 years of age.
