STCW BS+PSC+AFF Refresher

This four day course is designed to provide a combined refresher training program that meets the Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duty (MED) requirements (as per the STCW 2010 Manila amendments) for Basic Safety, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Advanced Firefighting 

This program is intended for seafarers who hold Certificates of Competency as Deck Officer or Engineer. The aims and objectives of this course are to refresh and update the trainee with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to perform their role as an Officer or Engineer safely and effectively. Trainees will be required to demonstrate their skills, understanding, knowledge and competence in the following training topics: 1. Introduction and Safety; 2. Hazards and Emergencies; 3. Lifesaving appliances and abandonment; 4. Lifeboats; 5. Rescue boats; 6. Liferafts, rigid hull liferafts, and marine evacuation systems; 7. Survival, first aid and rescue; 8. Helicopter assistance; 9. Fire cause and prevention; 10. Firefighting systems; 11. Training of crew members; 12. Management and control of injured persons. 

Training Duration and Timings Approximately 30.5 hours of training completed over 4 days. Classes run from 0800 to 1630 (time can be altered if necessary). Trainees absent from any component of the program will not be issued a certification until they have completed all requirements. 

1. A person must be of at least 16 years of age to take the REF-MED STCW BS+PSC+AFF Refresher course.

2. A person must hold a training certificate in MED with respect to STCW Basic Safety and MED with respect to STCW Proficiency in Survival craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (MED PSC) and a MED with respect to STCW Advanced Fire Fighting, or equivalent under subsection 2.2 of chapter 2 of TP 4957 to take this course.

All program information, written courseware and classroom presentations, will be conducted in English.
